HISTORY:
Urban Musical Theatre (UMT) was established in the state of North Carolina in 2015, due to lack of performing arts and theatre program offerings underrepresented artist of color and the underserved Black population in North Carolina. UMT, was is disbelief on how few theatre workshops in acting, singing, dancing, talent development classes and performances that were accessible for people of color.
Urban Musical Theatre, is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) Black Theatre organization, that provides a permanent home for artist of color to perform. Our theatrical musicals and play enable those artists to explore, experience and present a wide-ranging variety of dramatic programs that reflect the significant canon of Black artist, singers, dancer, actors, musicians and artistic to showcase their talent on stage.
Over the past ten years Urban Musical Theatre has increasing the number of platforms and opportunities to perform with excellence, pride, and respect for Black heritage. Our arts programming is design to train and develop artists, build self-esteem and confidence, and showcase hidden black talent live on stage and to perform with excellence, pride, and respect for Black heritage. Our commitment to educate black artists and entrepreneurs about the importance of their contributions in the arts and to sustain its cultural history is the platforms we build upon.
